Our Story

The Dr. Richard Davies First Responder Fund was created in 2017 to care for our neighbors in times of crisis. The First Responder Fund is a 501c3 which seeks to ensure that Canby Police, Fire, EMT’s, and The Canby Center have resources to assist people with needs incurred during an emergency.
The fund is named in honor of Dr. Richard Davies who served as the Director of Emergency Medical Services in Canby for 38 years. Dr. Davies graduated from Midwestern University in Chicago in 1975 and specialized in family medicine practice in Canby. His service to first responders and the community at large are an example of what it means to care well for our neighbors.
Often, when a family encounters the crisis of a home break in or fire, family members can be unprepared for the immediate needs that flood their lives. Smoke damage may make a home temporarily uninhabitable. Children may need shoes, coats, or simply a meal. Police, Fire, and EMS first responders are often the first people to assist in a crisis. The First Responder fund puts valuable resources in reach of our first responders who can help 24/7. Giving to the First Responder Fund is a perfect way to help our neighbors in need and cheer on our hometown heroes at the same time.
